Scott Thompson was born in 1973 in Birmingham, Al. He graduated from Samford University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art. He then graduated from San Francisco’s Academy of Art in 2011 with an MFA in studio art, Thompson was always interested in art as a child. He did not become totally invested until he discovered western art, originating in the Southwest of America. It was then that Thompson discovered a true love for painting. Not only did he gravitate towards the western genre of art, but he also gained an appreciation for the texture and feel of paint. Since then, painting has been a large part of his life. Thompson expresses his love of painting through landscapes, horses, cattle and wildlife. He has a strong appreciation for the shapes, colors and transitioning light seen in nature. Thompson is attracted to the always changing atmosphere and the challenge it presents to an artist. Thompson feels that practice and repetition with one’s drawing and painting are two of the most important factors in becoming a good artist. These are the values which have guided Thompson’s painting philosophy.
