Statement
Through the process of layering oil paint, I am capturing and making permanent the memories that represent my personal experience in the contemporary Southwest. The southern New Mexican desert can be beautiful with piercing light and crisp color, but in the same breath can be harsh, neglected, humbling, and dominating. My art expresses both sentiments at the same time. I depict landscapes and objects but balance abstraction and representation to find a middle ground where this dualistic feeling is at its peak.
