Starks balances pictorial clarity with subtle tonal relationships. The range of values and their luminance are shaped by her observations of reality and the limitations of pigment, but palette is imagined, sensory, intuitive and informed.
Traveling and painting extensively throughout the southwest, Starks has witnessed the environment being degraded at its edges and core due to escalating human activity. In compliment to her aesthetic explorations, her work serves as a record of the solitude and beauty of the wilderness under our domain.
