More about Plenty Coups’ Peace

Plenty Coups is the name of a Chief of the Crow Nation – their final chief, in fact. Reading about his visions during a time of tremendous change guided the making of this painting, which shows birches (greatly edited to my taste) in the Bighorn mountains with a single crow at their base. The birches are for the white men and the crow is for the Crow. I had thought about filling the painting with crows, but alas, that is another painting. Here, a single crow lives among the mountains and trees.

Seth Tummins

Seth is working to bring his Inner Man up to the surface of the skin so as to speak with one voice – to be a unified person. Learning how landscape painting helps him do this is why he keeps working toward the goal of making work like prayer.
