Each piece that Texas native (and descendent of Buffalo Bill Cody) Elizabeth Dryden creates is a lawless mystery to unfold. Colorful and lively in spirit, there are volumes of information to be discovered in the textured surfaces.

After growing up in Dallas, Texas, Dryden discovered the mystique of the desert while attending the University of Arizona, which has proved to be a lasting fascination and source of inspiration. Her primary subjects are the enchanting and indestructible flora and fauna that reside there. Dryden breaks down scenes of the American Southwest into a magical exploration of color and shape. Exploring cacti and various desert inhabitants in bright, vibrant Southwest scenes, Dryden combines the paradoxes between long-standing traditional ideals and modern society, working her discoveries of life’s virtues into the brushstrokes of paint and various paper and textured mediums that she’s known for.

After graduating from Texas Woman’s University with a degree in Art Education, Dryden has settled in East Dallas next to her beloved White Rock Lake with her cat Rupert and dog Pete, where she works in her home studio.

Statement

“My goal as an artist is to bring beauty and wonder through capturing the outside world as I see it in a 2-dimensional mixed media work of art. I use many different mediums and textures to represent the vast variety of combinations in nature within the American Southwest.”
