“My vision as an artist is a kind of Magical Realism.
Simply ~ my paintings are inspired by a love for the mystery and beauty of the world. I’m always looking for the hidden magic that can be shared through my art.
I’ve been inspired by Van Gogh, Chagall, the French Fauve and colorist painters, Gaugin, and Cezanne; Russian mystic painter Nicholas Roerich, Canadian painters Emily Carr and Lawren Harris, various Southwest painters including Georgia O’Keefe, and any artists exploring a passion for color and reverence for nature.
My paintings begin on location, and are completed in my studio.
With oils, I use a glazing technique, layering vibrant colors of paint to achieve the maximum brilliance in a composition.
I also love painting with gouache and pastels, using a layering process unique to each different medium.
For me, painting is devotion ~ an ongoing visual love poem to the natural world.” – Tracy Turner Sheppard
